On-the-Road Work
Work locations may vary. Frequent or constant travel is required from the employee.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions using computer equipment, GPS equipment or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
• Address customers’ complaints or concerns.
• Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
• Demonstrate professionalism in customer service.
• Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
• Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
• Oversee the condition of the vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
• Perform brake adjustments.
• Perform emergency roadside repairs.
• Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections and oversee all aspects of the vehicle.
• Perform preventive maintenance.
• Receive and relay information to central dispatch.
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
• Perform tarping and ensure the safety and security of cargo.
