Job duties:
The Stucco Latherer will perform the following duties:
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements.
Measure, cut, fit and install metal lath, wire mesh and other supporting materials used for stucco applications.
Install exterior insulation and finish system components, including insulation boards, reinforcing mesh and related materials.
Prepare wall and ceiling surfaces for stucco, plaster and exterior finishing applications.
Mix and apply base coats, scratch coats and finishing coats of stucco using hand and power tools.
Apply, level and smooth stucco and plaster materials to exterior and interior surfaces.
Install corner beads, casing beads, control joints, expansion joints and other accessories.
Create smooth, textured or decorative finishes according to project specifications.
Repair cracked, damaged or deteriorated stucco surfaces.
Erect and dismantle scaffolding and other working platforms, when required.
Estimate materials required for assigned work and minimize material waste.
Operate hand tools, power tools and construction equipment safely.
Maintain a clean and safe work area and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
Work independently and collaboratively with supervisors and other members of the construction team.
Employment requirements
Completion of secondary school is preferred but not mandatory.
A minimum of two to three years of experience as a stucco latherer, plasterer.
Experience installing metal lath, wire mesh, exterior insulation and stucco systems is required.
Ability to read measurements, construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to mix, apply, level and finish stucco materials.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders and scaffolding safely.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods and lifting materials weighing up to approximately 23 kg/50 lb.
Ability to work outdoors, at heights and in varying weather conditions.
Valid Ontario driver’s licence is an asset but is not mandatory unless genuinely necessary for the position.
Trade certification is an asset but is not mandatory.
