Responsibilities
Tasks
• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, work orders, and technical specifications for custom truck and van upfitting projects.
• Measure, cut, fit, fabricate, and weld steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel components using MIG, TIG, and other welding processes.
• Fabricate and assemble custom shelving systems, partitions, ladder racks, storage cabinets, work benches, mounting brackets, cargo barriers, and other upfitting components.
• Weld and install structural supports, reinforcement brackets, frames, and mounting systems for commercial vans and trucks.
• Modify and repair existing vehicle upfitting equipment according to customer specifications and engineering requirements.
• Operate fabrication equipment including welding machines, plasma cutters, grinders, drill presses, band saws, hydraulic presses, and other metalworking tools.
• Grind, clean, finish, and prepare welded assemblies for painting, powder coating, or final installation.
• Perform layout, fitting, alignment, and inspection of fabricated components to ensure dimensional accuracy and proper fit.
• Install fabricated metal components securely inside commercial vehicles while maintaining structural integrity and safety standards.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for strength, quality, and compliance with company specifications.
• Repair damaged shelving systems, ladder racks, partitions, flooring supports, and other metal vehicle accessories.
• Work closely with installers, fabricators, and production staff to complete custom upfitting projects within scheduled timelines.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition and perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Follow all occupational health and safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials.
• Maintain accurate records of completed fabrication work and report any material defects or production issues to supervisors.
