Responsibilities
Determine the size of food portions and costs
Requisition food and kitchen supplies
Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
Respond to customer's order requirements and feedback
Prepare and cook special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef
Inspect kitchens and food service areas
Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
Order supplies and equipment
Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
Clean kitchen and work areas
Remove kitchen garbage and trash
Wash, peel and cut vegetables and fruit
Receive, unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards and other storage areas
Sharpen kitchen knives
Clean and sanitize kitchen, including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and equipment
Use manual and electrical appliances to clean, peel, slice and trim foodstuffs
Food safety/handling skills
Requirements
Experience in a breakfast restaurant kitchen is an asset.
Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or food service within a restaurant or food industry setting
Knowledge of kitchen operations, meal preparation techniques, and food safety standards
Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Strong understanding of serving etiquette and customer service principles
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members
Prior experience with food handling, restaurant operations, or kitchen experience is preferred
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed
