Job Details
I'm looking for an experienced, additional caregiver to help take care of my dad, who lives in a lovely and spacious home in Waterloo (Keats Way & University Ave.). My dad is 78 years old and has Parkinson's, is a gentle, sweet soul who is friendly/mild-mannered, used to be a chemical engineer, and likes old Bollywood movies/songs. His mobility tends to fluctuate, and he needs assistance with most things (dementia patient). He gets a daily PSW visit in the mornings for his baths.

At present, myself (the son) and a 3 live-out part-time caregivers take care of him, and this vacancy comes up as our live-in caregiver for the past 3 years will soon be shifting. As such, there is a gap of about 35 hours/week or so to fill (perhaps spread over 5 days/week). I myself am at the house about half the time, and half the nights (I also manage another house nearby), and am fairly flexible scheduling-wise. I do about 15 hrs/week with dad, and the other part-time caregivers do about 40-45 hrs/week total. He's up and about between 8 am and 9 pm most days, nights are generally restful.

Some potential responsibilities would include:

~ mobility support (being able to lift/support a 145 lb man, often on bed or couch, would be beneficial)

~ meal prep/serving, experience or ability to make Indian meals would be helpful ~ administering medicines

~ light housekeeping, laundry, etc.

~ dressing & grooming (the PSW typically gives him a bath, but he needs occasional clothing changes due to incontinence)

~ companionship (speaking Hindi/Punjabi would be beneficial, though he speaks English fine too), his wife of 48 years (my mom) passed away a few years ago

~ we take occasional trips to our house in Brampton to visit extended family, and for medical appointments, usually for about 2 days every month. Assistance during these would be needed.

Private room and food would be included. We also have my friendly dog at the house and usually 2 other housemates, at this 3000-sqft bungalow with lots of greenery, gym, yoga/meditation area. Candidates with calm, quiet, mature, compassionate energy, and a spirit of service (for which you will be appreciatively compensated) preferred! Ideally with a fairly flexible schedule.
