Live Haul Traffic Controller

About The Role
The Live Haul Traffic Controller will be responsible for directing and monitoring live haul drivers, shunters, and equipment for all movements of equipment and chickens. This is an existing position in the company.

Salary: $27.86 to $28.51 hourly (To be negotiated)

What You Will Be Doing
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Organize tasks to accomplish the work.
• Ensure drivers are given the necessary support by directing them on equipment to use, providing accurate routing including farm layouts, controlling drivers’ routes, coordinating response to breakdowns and addressing any emergencies that drivers might encounter on the road.
• Co-ordinate activities with other work units or departments.
• Monitor driver’s Electronic Logging Device to conform to regulatory requirements and inform Manager of deviations.
• Prepare and submit reports.
• Resolve work problems, provide technical advice and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
• Provide and monitor equipment assigned to drivers, example transponders, trailer sensors, tractor keys, trailer fobs, and mobiles to ensure accountability and traceability.
• Train workers in duties and policies
• Arrange training for staff
• Co-ordinate, assign and review work
• Organize and maintain inventory
• Manage the shunting of trailers to ensure continuous flow of trailers into the lairage, monitoring the offloading and reloading area to prevent line stoppage.
• Update FIFO (First In, First Out) report & kill sequence to track movement of trailers to the plant.
• Assist Dispatch Scale Operator.
• Support investigations into root causes of errors that occur in the operation.
• Review all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and work instructions to ensure they are acquainted with the latest procedures.
• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
• Supervise transportation route and crew schedulers.
• Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of improved department specific processes, policies and procedures.
• Recommend, develop and implement enhancements and improvements to departmental policies and procedures.
What You Will Bring
Education: Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management
Languages: English
Experience: minimum 2 years of relevant experience
• Must be able to leverage technology to effectively control and make quick adjustments to target loads schedule for the plant.
• Ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRC, food safety, food quality, etc.;
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations;
• Understanding of potential violations in driver HOS (Hours of Service) or driving behavior/compliance.
