Job Description
Responsibilities
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, blueprints, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing electrical equipment installations
• Plan and execute electrical tasks from rough-in to final installation, including material estimation and sequencing of work phases
• Splice, join, and connect wire to fixtures and components to form circuits
• Test continuity of circuits and diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using advanced test equipment, including insulation resistance testers (meggers) and thermal imaging cameras, to ensure compatibility and safety of the system following installation, replacement, or repair
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdown and correct the problem
• Troubleshoot and isolate faults in electrical and electronic systems independently, including identifying root causes and determining and implementing corrective solutions without direct supervision
• Install conduit, pull wire through conduit and cable trays, and perform cable dressing including bending, cutting, and installing small and large conduits
• Conduct preventive maintenance programs and ensure that electrical maintenance and repairs are recorded accurately
• Coordinate with engineers and inspectors, and handle corrections and compliance requirements independently
• Adhere to Canadian Electrical Codes and electrical safety authority rules
• Perform service upgrades and panel replacements, including work in main distribution panels requiring accurate load calculations and phase balancing
• Handle assigned work orders and perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks
• Read and analyze technical procedures, service manuals, and work orders to perform required preventive maintenance work
• Supervise and provide guidance to apprentices and junior trade team members on site
