Breeder Service Technician

About The Role
The Breeder Service Technician will be working at MLF Hatcheries located in Beamsville, ON. This is an existing position in the company.
Work location: 4412 Ontario St., Beamsville, ON L0R 1B0. (On site)

Salary: $29.91 to $38.46 hourly (To be negotiated)

What You Will Be Doing
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Independently perform vaccinations, flock placements, environmental sampling, serological sampling at assigned flocks.
• Prepare and implement barn lighting programs to promote optimum flock development
• Assess producer feeders and drinkers to promote flock health
• Assess feed quality and promote best feed presentation practices.
• Observe and adhere to all workplace safety policies and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Track flock performance and communicate it to the respective hatchery.
• Evaluate flock health as normal or problematic.
• Support producers during routine bird weighing and provide feed program and feed rate recommendations depending on the average body weight, weight gain, body condition and production performance.
• Assess egg quality on farm, and provide recommendations on egg handling and facility equipment wear and tear where improvements are required
• Use adequate tools to assess litter condition, air quality, temperature, and humidity of the barn to ensure the environment is optimum for the birds
• Observe and adhere to all biosecurity procedures including vehicle, on farm and at the hatchery.
• Identify atypical management or flock performance, and to report this to the Breeder Service Supervisor or Senior Manager, Hatchery Veterinary and Technical Services.
• Complete and submit appropriate paperwork associated with assigned flocks.
What You Will Bring
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agriculture, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and progressive poultry industry experience
Languages: English
Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience in independent on-farm technical service or field-based poultry roles.
• Proven experience independently performing vaccinations, flock placements, and sampling activities. Flock health evaluations and environmental assessments. Producer support during bird weighing and performance reviews. Feed program and feed rate recommendations based on data analysis
• Demonstrated experience working within Ontario’s supply managed poultry system. Regulatory, biosecurity, and audit driven environments
• Experience identifying atypical flock performance or management practices and escalating concerns appropriately
• Demonstrated competency in On-farm data collection and reporting tools. Basic computer applications (Excel, internal flock management systems, reporting platforms)
• Working knowledge of biosecurity practices and workplace health and safety protocols (including WHMIS or equivalent)
