Houston Landscapes Ltd. is seeking an Assistant Foreman for its location in Whistler, BC. It’s a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position, $32.50h - $34.00/hour (depending on experience) paid bi-weekly. Overtime compensation is based on the current BC Employment Standards Act (1.5 times the regular wage paid if the daily hours exceed 8 hours or the weekly hours exceed 40 hours).

We offer an employee benefit plan that includes health benefits that are available after six months with the company. Two weeks of paid vacation each year.

Location of employment: March to November in Whistler, BC, and December to February in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. Affordable staff accommodation is provided in Whistler. No accommodation is provided in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. During the winter months, the employee is responsible for arranging their own accommodation in the Lower Mainland or commuting daily.

Job Description

Job duties:
• Daily inspection of landscape to ensure overall presentation and condition of grounds and gardens meet standards and quality expectations of Houston Landscapes.
• Prioritize horticultural tasks and coordinate implementation of work assignments.
• Manage and coordinate the activities of ground maintenance workers and maintain work records and logs.
• Plan and estimate labour and materials.
• Assign duties to the workers and train and mentor new employees.
• Oversee the planning and construction of landscaped environments, including all ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns and softscape features.
• Oversee and assist in the installation of paving stone patios, walkways, driveways, ponds and water features and in the installation of flagstone and other natural stone patios, walkways, and pool decks.
• Organize and oversee the excavation of sites and grades.
• Attend meetings as necessary, including but not limited to managers’ meetings, committee meetings and planning.

Requirements:
• Must have completed high school.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a Tractor, Bobcat and Pick-up truck.
• Must have at least three years of experience as a ground maintenance worker.
• Must have the ability to supervise 10 – 12 people.
• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be a team player, have client focus, and have excellent oral communication.
• Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
