Join Our Team as a Food Preparer!
Big River Service Centre is seeking a seasonal Food Preparer to support daily kitchen operations and ensure high-quality food preparation for our customers. The Food Preparer plays a key role in maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe kitchen environment.
Position: Food Preparer
Location: 1 NT-3 Lot 3, Fort Providence, NT X0E 0L0
Wage: $20/hr
Hours: 30-40 hours per week from March 1, 2026 – October 30, 2026
Key Responsibilities:
• Wash, peel, and cut vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients for cooking.
• Prepare basic components of dishes (e.g., sauces, marinades, garnishes) according to recipes.
• Prepare and assemble a variety of food items as required for daily operations (e.g., cold and hot items, snacks, and desserts).
• Portion and package food items for storage or service.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep stations and storage areas.
• Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
• Assist with receiving and organizing food and supply deliveries by properly storing and labeling ingredients to ensure quick access and compliance with food safety standards.
• Label and date all prepared items to ensure proper rotation (FIFO).
• Clean and sanitize prep tools, cutting boards, and work surfaces regularly.
• Assist cooks and kitchen staff during busy periods.
• Dispose of waste and maintain a tidy work environment.
Job Description
Qualifications:
• Previous kitchen experience an asset; 1 year preferred but not required
• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good organizational and teamwork skills.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
