Job requirements
Languages: English
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate is required
Experience: Work experience as a floor covering installer for 2 years or more is required
Work setting: Industrial, Commercial. Residential, Various locations
Tasks/ Job Duties: Inspect, measure, and mark surfaces to be determine areas to be covered with floor materials; Measure, cut and secure underlayments or underpadding in preparation for flooring installations; Accurately measure, cut, and install carpets and other textile floor coverings; Measure, cut, and install resilient flooring such as vinyl, linoleum and rubber materials; Examine existing floor covering and perform necessary repairs or replacement; Estimate quantities of materials, labour requirements, and overall project costs; Remove existing floor coverings and clean subfloors to ensure suitable installation conditions; Utilize specialized tools such as knee kickers, stretchers, and seam rollers to properly fit and secure carpeting; Install carpet and resilient materials for both interior and exterior applications; Apply floor covering materials to a variety of surfaces, including countertop, stairs, and platforms; Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements; Prepare detailed flooring layouts and establish work schedules to meet project timelines; Prepare tenders and quotations for flooring installation projects; Install hardwood flooring, including subfloor preparation, fitting and finishing; Conduct site inspections such as moisture, pH, and temperature and other pre-installation tests before starting installation; Prepare floors by cleaning, leveling, and applying necessary sealments or treatments prior to installation; Install carpeting on walls or other specialized surfaces as required; Perform direct glue-down carpet installations following industry standards; Install resilient stair components, including specialized features for accessibility or safety; Install vinyl decking and other exterior flooring materials.
