The Opportunity
We, Trace Associates Inc., are looking for an experienced Civil Engineering Technologist to join our growing team.
The Position
Position Title: Civil Engineering Technologist (NOC 22300)
Vacancies: 1
Employment Terms: Permanent, Full-time (30–40 hours per week)
Schedule: Day, Flexible hours, Overtime available, To be determined
Wage: $36.00 – $38.00 per hour
Work Location: 37 Richard Way SW, Suite 300, Calgary, Alberta, T3E 7M8
Responsibilities:
• Produce accurate and detailed drawing sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related modeling programs.
• Apply knowledge of layers, line types, and client-specific requirements.
• Analyze and create surfaces with spatial data (LiDAR, terrestrial scanner, and other survey formats).
• Produce civil engineering plans, which may include existing site plans, design plans, road profiles and cross sections, drafting of typical sections
• Prepare site grading, road, ditch alignment, and pond grading plans.
• Prepare and compare as-built plans with design drawings.
• Calculate earthwork volumes.
• Conduct or supervise field surveys, inspections or technical investigations, including data collection on soils, drainage, and building foundations for design projects.
• Oversee or perform inspection and testing of construction materials (e.g. concrete, soil compaction, asphalt) to ensure compliance with design specifications and standards.
• Assist with project coordination: liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and internal team members; support permitting, change management, and documentation workflows.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical support to junior professionals.
• Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, landowners/stakeholders, and regulators.
• Be a part of a team that develops new business.
• Independently prepare reports (including submissions to regulatory authorities), work plans, technical memos, and proposals
• Maintain project records, field reports, site logs, progress reports, and ensure that all deliverables comply with regulations and procedures.
About You and Your Qualifications:
• Diploma degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Drafting and Design, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Experienced in safely leading environmental drilling programs
• Experience with Aquifer Test Solutions and hydraulic conductivity analysis.
• Experience with contaminated sites in urban areas.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D including surfaces, grading, feature lines, alignments and corridors.
• Computer training in GIS and AutoCAD
• Familiar with land surveying principles and practices.
• Knowledge of current and proposed engineering design and surveying standards
• Team player – positive, humble, caring, genuine, and trustworthy
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Critical and creative thinker with problem-solving abilities.
• Capable of working independently while collaborating in a team environment.
• A valid class 5 driver’s licence is required
• Willing to work extended hours and travel away from home
