Job Requirements
Languages: English
Education: College diploma in culinary art/management or high school graduation certificate with equivalent experience is required.
Experience: Work experience as a chef in a commercial kitchen for 3 years or more is required
Work site environment: Hot, Noisy
Work setting: Restaurant, Urban area
Ranks of chefs: Chef
Supervision: 5-10 people, staff in various areas of responsibility
Cuisine specialties: Deep understanding in Korean cuisine is an asset
Certificate, licenses: Food Safety’s Food Handler Certification
Food specialties: Meat, poultry, egg and dairy, fish and seafood, vegetables and mushrooms
Tasks/ Job Duties: Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards; Create new recipes; Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff; Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food; Leading/instructing staff in various roles; Supervise activities of Korean food chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers; Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food; Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerance; Prepare and cook Korean food on a regular basis, or for special events; Consult with customers regarding special events or catering; Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items; Estimate labour costs; Analyze operating costs and other data; Maintain records of foods, consumption, sales and inventory; Requisition food and kitchen supplies; Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs; Recruit and hire staff
