We are looking for Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor.

Job Description
The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable regulations (i.e., ISO17025, GMP, GLP), for clients requiring quality assurance services

Job duties
The responsibility of this role is to ensure consistent quality of production and plant sanitation by developing and enforcing above standard manufacturing practices.
• Implement and monitor food safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations (e.g., CFIA, HACCP, FDA).
• Conduct regular audits and inspections of production facilities to ensure hygiene and safety standards are maintained.
• Supervise and monitor the production process to ensure products meet company and regulatory quality standards.
• Ensure that quality control checks are performed at various stages of production, packaging, and distribution.
• Investigate and resolve quality-related complaints or issues raised by customers or regulatory bodies.
• Maintain detailed records of all food safety protocols, audits, corrective actions, and quality control reports.
• Ensure accurate documentation for traceability, supplier approvals, and product recall readiness.
• Train staff on food safety standards, quality assurance protocols, and proper sanitation procedures.
• Ensure employees understand and follow proper procedures for food handling, storage, and production safety.
• Develop and implement initiatives for continuous improvement in food safety and quality processes.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to address non-compliance or product quality issues.
• Ensure the facility meets or exceeds all food safety certification standards (e.g., BRC, SQF).
• Prepare for and lead third-party audits, government inspections, and customer visits.
• Oversee product testing, sampling, and shelf-life studies to ensure that products meet company and regulatory specifications.
• Verify the accuracy of product labels, nutritional information, and allergen declarations.
• Evaluate and approve suppliers based on their compliance with food safety standards.
• Monitor supplier performance and perform audits to ensure adherence to quality agreements.
• Manage and report incidents related to food safety, such as contamination, product recalls, or customer complaints.
• Ensure timely communication with regulatory agencies and senior management in case of significant food safety events.
• Work closely with production, logistics, and R&D teams to ensure alignment on quality and food safety standards.
• Participate in product development and improvement initiatives from a quality and food safety perspective.
• Responsible for GMP and HACCP are consistent with company policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance.
• Performs as a HACCP leader to ensure HACCP program and pre-requisite programs are up-to-date and fully implemented in production.
• Provide leadership and direction in the plant QA team towards training, coaching and developing of QA technicians. This includes, but is not limited to identifying training needs, providing opportunity for personal growth, assessing performance goals, assuring adherence to company policies and practices, managing absenteeism and assisting in disciplining should coaching be ineffective.
• Provide leadership during audits. Assist and lead as assigned by QA Manager.
• Maintain records of finished product specifications, SOPs, SSOPs, QA forms etc.
• Creates training materials to support GMP/HACCP/Sanitation programs at all levels of the company and provides routine employee training on quality, regulatory, and food safety principles and policies to ensure 100% completion.
• Reviews plant issues, ensures problems are resolved, and follows-up on customer/supplier complaints with corrective actions and preventive measures.
• In conjunction with the Plant Operations, implements quality enhancement processes and procedures at the plant level to achieve process improvements and cost savings.
• Maintains Recall/Mock Recall, Traceability, FIFO, Continuous Improvement, Sanitation, Pest Control, Food Security, etc. programs.
• Supports third party audits (GMP, Costco), customer and internal audit.
• Manages direct report of 2 QA Technician and prepares recommendations for team development.
• Oversees facility sanitation through monitoring of environmental swabbing and communicate with a Sanitation team on any identified cleaning issues.
• Reviews internal/external testing results for the raw material, finished products, etc.
Job Description
Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of progressive quality experience in a Food Safety & QA supervisor is required.
• Knowledge of GMP Health Canada data integrity requirements;
• Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience (R&D and/or QC);
• Must speak and write English Fluently;
• Authorization to work in Canada.
• Completion of college diploma in Food Science, or a related field. Preferred 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance. Preferred people management skills. Preferred (internal) auditing skills.
• Required to have GFSI experience (SQF is an asset), PCQI certification
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and time management skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate up and down the organization.
• Previous leadership experience preferably in a Food Processing facility.
• Disciplined, motivated and accountable for all Quality Assurance matters.
• Strong systems skills (including MS Office).
• Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Excellent organizational skills;
• High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail;
• Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure;
• High level of professionalism, maturity, good judgement, and discretion when dealing in confidential matters;
• Must be proactive, self-disciplined and able to demonstrate a high level of productivity;
• Demonstrate satisfactory work performance and attendance record;
• Willingness to learn with the ability to retain information quickly and apply knowledge to various scenarios;
• Exceptional computer skills with a high level of competence with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel);
• Previous experience in QA is essential.

Education: Completion of a diploma / bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a science-related discipline.

Work Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in quality experience in a Food Safety & QA supervisor is required.
