The Opportunity

Uchucklesaht Tribe Government (UTG) is seeking a friendly and energetic individual to become part of the Lands and Resources Department team as a Lands and Resources Technician.

Reporting to the Director of Lands and Resources and the Resource and Development Manager, this position is responsible for marine and lands monitoring and stewardship, land use planning and development, resource harvesting management and opportunities, , and field-based monitoring, research and resources handling.
The opportunity is based in our Port Alberni office with time spent between office and fieldwork. The successful candidate will be required to work from UTG's main offices located in Port Alberni with field work components within UTG's territories. There is no remote work option available for this position.

Your Responsibilities
This position is diverse and will include efforts pertaining to several items including Marine Stewardship and Monitoring Program, Reasonable Opportunities Agreement (ROA), lands management and development, land use planning, resource monitoring, planning and utilization, and management through Uchucklesaht Tribe Government Acts and Regulations.
Highlights and priorities of your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
• Actively engages in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the Uchucklesaht Tribe Government.
• Undertakes field assessment and monitoring activities as part of the UTG Marine Stewardship and Monitoring Program, UTG’s Ungulate Monitoring Program, and our general plant, wildlife and aquatic fisheries assessment and monitoring activities.
• Assists with organizing, scheduling, and coordinating human and equipment needs for resource management projects, infrastructure maintenance projects, while providing technical assistance, where applicable, to assigned employees and citizens of the Uchucklesaht Tribe.
• Work collaboratively with the Lands and Resources team as part of the traditional foods delivery program, including the Uchucklesaht Food Fish Program
• Collaboratively works on delivery of land management practices, projects, and services for Uchucklesaht Tribe Lands, the Traditional Territory, and the Village of Ehthlateese.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in one or more of the following: Resource Management, Planning, Biology, Land Management or Environmental Studies or a related discipline
• A minimum of 1-year experience in a natural resource technician position, or related field.
• Experience in digital mapping or drawing production.
• Knowledge of land management issues and legislation affecting First Nations both locally and nationally, including treaty First Nations.
• Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with coworkers, citizens, and outside agencies, partners, and business associates.
• Promote a positive work atmosphere and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect.

Your differentiating skills may include the following:
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Applied Biologists.
• Experience operating boats and travelling to remote locations either by land or water.
• Experience working with First Nations in British Columbia.
