Your Chance to Change Lives
Making a Science
Degree a Positive Option for Indigenous Students
The University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Science is looking for a dynamic and
experienced leader with a
strong commitment and connection to Indigenous communities for
its ground-breaking Wawatay (Anishinaabe for Northern
Lights) program. The goal of this holistic initiative is
to attract highly motivated Indigenous students to science and
ensure they have the academic, social and emotional support to
successfully obtain a four-year science degrees or graduate degrees at a large
university, possibly far from home, while respectfully connecting directly with
Elders and their home community, and forging community and research
collaborations. Wawatay needs a resourceful, forceful and determined lead
to launch and build it into a prestigious and successful program, working
collaboratively with students, their home communities as well as
a wide range of faculty and support staff throughout the university.
