From 47 886 to 79 426 $ per year

SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the incumbent’s priority as an Indigenous Student Life Advisor is to provides support services for Indigenous students, to help students adjust to the College with the objectives of encouraging links with the services of the College and preparing them for other post-secondary experiences. Specifically, this position involves providing support, assisting, leading, and informing students in matters pertaining to their college experience and student life. The Indigenous Student Life Advisor will also promote, within the College community, an environment that reflects, enhances, includes, and supports Indigenous cultures.

DUTIES
Providing Educational Support
• Facilitates the process of transition to the College level.
• Provides personal support, makes referrals to appropriate internal and external resources.
• Provides tutoring and study skills resources.
• Provides academic support.
• Assesses individual student needs.
• Advocates for Indigenous students within the College.
• Advises students on the regulations and options within the College.
• Works closely with other resource persons within Student Services and Academic Services.
• Organizes social and group building activities.
• Organizes all services provided by the Indigenous Gathering Centre.
• Provides and/or participates in various workshops or Student Services activities (Graduation, Orientation, Awards Evening, Parent Information Night, etc.).
• Informs students about various services and programs, as well as career and employment opportunities.
• Organizes orientation sessions at the College for potential new students.
• Participates in the organization of cultural, recruitment, recreational, health & wellness, and social activities, as required.
• In collaboration with other concerned personnel (i.e.: Faculty, Student Services, Academic Services, Continuing Education), develops and animates activities encouraging personal and academic development for students.
• Participates in different information meetings concerning the contents of the programs (i.e.: Orientation and Introduction to the College).
• Assists in the development and establishment of communication and promotional policies and programs aimed at students, parents and populations concerned with the activities of the College.
• Provides assistance in the publication of institutional brochures, promotion materials, activity reports, briefs, etc.
• Chooses, gathers, and, on occasion, consolidates or adapts information with a view to presenting it to a specific group of people.
• Establishes channels of communication with various departments of the College in relation to Indigenous students.
• Assists with activities related to the retention of students.
• May be called upon to participate in studies and work in multidisciplinary teams.

For the College Community
• Develops and promotes ways to increase the visibility of Indigenous cultures.
• Works with the College staff and administration to increase sensitivity to the unique needs of Indigenous students and communities.
• Contributes and supports the College’s commitment to the CICan Indigenous Education Protocol and work plan.
• Proposes aesthetic and symbolic changes to the space on campus.
• Reaches out and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including (but not limited to) the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation Tribal Council, the Indigenous Education Council, members of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community members, as well as Indigenous student representatives.
• Encourages intellectual change to the College landscape, to attract and retain Indigenous students, faculty, and staff, while promoting campus-wide decolonization.
• Promotes and facilitates the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge keepers and elders, communities, and organizations in the day-to-day experiences of students, faculty, and staff.
• Leads in the creation and implementation of initiatives, programs and services for Indigenous students, faculty, and staff at the College.
• Is responsible for leading activities for and providing advice, assistance, and feedback to the management personnel of the educational services, teachers, and other professionals.
• Acts as a liaison and maintains links with Indigenous school boards, organizations, and communities to build engagement and partnership opportunities that align with Indigenous Student Services and Heritage student experiences
• Contacts guidance counselors, provides information to the communities.
• Represents Heritage on different committees as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Description
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with specialization appropriate to the employment such as Indigenous studies, cultural studies, education, counselling, social services, academic and vocational, pedagogical development, psychology, adult education, or equivalent with a sound knowledge of Indigenous history and culture.
• Good communication skills in English (oral, comprehension and written).
• Experience working with Indigenous cultures, abilities, learning styles, orientations, etc.
• Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the unique needs of Indigenous students.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Possess a collaborative style.
• Strong organization and communication skills in group animation.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Possess the ability and experience of creating and maintaining partnerships with our local and regional community partners.
• Knowledge of technology information such as Microsoft Office.
• Must have a strong work ethic and exercise discretion.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of the Cégep system in the Québec educational context would be considered an asset.
• Basic French (oral and comprehension) would be considered an asset.
